HEALTH SERVICES:
The pink medical release form and doctor's statement must be in our office prior to your
arrival
at camp. The University Health Services cannot treat you unless
this
form is on file. The infirmary is open 8:00 A.M. - 4:00 P.M.
Monday
through Friday. Although all reasonable safety precautions are
taken
to protect you, Cannon Music Camp and Appalachian State University
cannot
be responsible for camp accidents. You are covered under a
limited
accident policy (copy available in the camp office). If illness
should
occur, contact your counselor, head counselor, or either of the deans,
DAY OR NIGHT. You will be taken to the infirmary or to Watauga
Medical
Center's Emergency Room if needed.
There are some items that need to be paid for before you arrive at camp:
AIRPORT
TRANSPORTATION:
For those traveling to camp via Charlotte International
Airport
(CLT), we offer a "pick-up and delivery" service. The cost is $15
one way, $30 round trip, payable when your flight schedule is submitted
to the camp.
ALEXANDER TECHNIQUE: Alexander Technique
is an internationally recognized method designed to increase
performance
ability through the discovery of ways which may relieve performance
anxiety.
This class is taught by Ms. Jane Comfort Brown, a certified Alexander
Technique
teacher. You should already have received information about this
opportunity in a previous mailing from the camp office. In order
to reserve a place in this class, send the form
for requesting it, along with the class fee of $105 (made payable to
Jane
Comfort Brown), to the camp office prior to the beginning of
camp.
Because schedule conflicts sometimes prevent pre-registered campers
from
participating, you might be able to add the class once camp has
begun.
If that is the case, you will need to pay the $105 class fee to Ms.
Brown
on the first day of camp. (Optional class.)
There are some items that need to be paid for during registration:
INSTRUMENT LOCKER: For storage of your instrument, music, etc., in the music building, $5. (Optional, but highly encouraged item)
INSTRUMENT RENTAL: Tubas, Double Basses, and Cellos may be rented from the School of Music, $10. (Optional item)
PIANO CLASS: This class is first-come, first-served at registration and is designed for students with no prior piano skill. The fee includes materials. If your schedule will not allow you to take the class a refund will be issued. Schedule changes often offer openings in the piano class after registration day so it might be a good idea keep an extra check or cash to cover the fee if you are unable to sign up during registration. The fee is $25. (Optional class.)
TUITION AND MEAL PLAN FEES: At registration, you will be required to pay the balance (if any) of your camp fees by cash or personal check.
T-SHIRT: Official Cannon Music Camp T-Shirt, $10. (Optional item)
STUDENT RECREATION CENTER: ASU's new recreation center, complete with facilities for fitness training, aerobic exercise, and indoor sports is available to campers, $20. (Optional item)
There are some items that you may need money for during camp:
EXTRA MONEY: We recommend that you bring your extra money in traveler’s checks in $20 increments. With the usual identification requirements, they may be used for purchases at all campus locations and most Boone businesses. Alternately, there are several ATMs on campus. Bringing large amounts of cash is not recommended. CMC is not responsible for any cash that is lost or stolen.
FOOD: (1) Adding money to the meal card should be done in $20 increments, as needed. Make checks payable to ASU Food Services or call 828-262-6141 or 262-3061 to add funds (Not necessary at the start of camp and only if needed). (2) Campers may have the opportunity, if they desire, to dine away from campus on some evenings or weekends. Should they make this choice they will need cash to pay for those meals that are outside of the meal plan. (3) Snacks/Vending are the responsibility of the camper.
LAUNDRY: Washers and Dryers are located in the Living Learning Center, First Floor. Cost is $1.25 per washer and dryer load. (There is no change machine in the residence hall; bring some quarters or as you are out and about through the week, get change.) You need to bring your own laundry supplies (detergent, fabric softener, etc.). If you need one, there is a small dry cleaning establishment located at the edge of campus.
SECONDARY LESSONS: Secondary private lessons (when available) are $80 for four one-half hour lessons, and $160 for four one-hour lessons. Since faculty schedules will not be set at the beginning of camp, this fee cannot be paid at registration. A check payable to Cannon Music Camp (Secondary Lessons - Hour or 1/2 Hour in the Memo) may be left with the camper or a check may be mailed to the camp during the first week if time is available from a faculty member for lessons. Please click here for more details on this opportunity. (Optional class.)
